DiskJockey and all components, documentation, and scripts ⌐2001, Reaction Media, LLC.
The "Xtras" folder in the "Reaction Media" folder is added to every disk you produce. Add the Xtras needed by your program to this folder. Try to avoid duplicate Xtras with truncated names.
If your program will be installed to a user's hard disk, the "Xtras" will be copied over automatically as well. To minimize the amount of disk space consumed by the installed system, only the appropriate set of Xtras will be copied over, either Macintosh or Windows Xtras, but not both.
Put your Macintosh Xtras into the "Dir-Mac" folder within the "Xtras" folder. Put your Windows Xtras into the "Dir-Win" folder. The most commonly used Xtras are already included in these folders. There are a couple Xtras at the root level of the Xtras folder. These are used by DiskJockey. Leave these files where they are.
Your program will launch faster if you do not embed your Xtras. At runtime, your projector must "unpack" each Xtra into a temporary system directory, leading to several seconds of plugging and chugging. To optimize the Xtras needed by your program (and reduce startup time), follow this procedure:
1. Open your Director movie.
2. Go to "Modify > Movie > Xtras..." from the menu
3. Select EACH Xtra, and press "Remove". Just do it.
4. Go to "File > Save and compact" Only the Xtras needed by
your projector will be added back to your movie, automatically.
5. Go back to "Modify > Movie > Xtras...", and UNCHECK the
"include in projector" box for EACH XTRA in the list.
6. Save again for the list of needed Xtras, but none embedded.
7. If your program needs Xtras not already included in the
Xtras folder, copy them from your "Director 7\Xtras" folder
into either (or both) "Xtras\Dir-Win" or "Xtras:Dir-Mac".
